number of those who
are sick and lonely. We invite you to participate in the
continuing work of the Adventures in Caring Foundation and
to help us leave a legacy of compassion for future generations.
The Adventures in Caring Endowment
The Adventures in Caring Endowment was formed in 2000 with
a lead gift from Dean and Roberta Smith plus a matching
grant and advice from the Hutton Foundation. Through this
Endowment, future generations will have access to programs,
projects and educational publications that teach and deliver
compassion.
Planning Your Gift
As you think about your charitable plans, the first decision
to make is whether to contribute now, or in the future.
Deferred giving, such as a bequest or charitable trust,
allows a donor immediate tax and estate planning benefits
but delays the actual gift to Adventures in Caring until
after the donor dies. Thus the donor never sees the good
works made possible by the gift. A deferred gift is a good
choice for donors who need the ongoing income from those
assets or trusts. If that’s not your situation, consider
the benefits of greater giving now. With smart planning
you can make a larger gift now and see the impact of your
gift during your lifetime.
A gift of long-term appreciated assets, such
as stocks or real estate, allows you to make a sizable current
gift to Adventures in Caring with substantial and immediate
tax benefits. This choice allows you the advantage of being
able to see the results generated from your gift, and gives
us the chance to personally recognize and thank you for
your generosity now. Tax-wise giving lowers the actual cost
of the gift. You avoid the capital gains tax you would have
paid if you had sold the appreciated asset, and you get
a charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value
of the gift. If you cannot use all of your deduction in
the year of the gift due to charitable contribution limitations,
it can be carried forward for up to five years.
